Melbourne Beginner Jewellery Course
blonde.’s Melbourne beginner jewellery course is a four-week introduction to making jewellery. Our course has been designed with a dual focus:
- Helping you make the most highly-requested types of jewellery with expert assistance in each class and
- Teaching you the jewellery’s most fundamental and practical skills to enable you to make a wide range of your own pieces.
Run across four consecutive Thursday evenings (530-830pm) at our Fitzroy studio, by the end of the blonde. beginner jewellery course you’ll take home your very own incredible jewellery, and have the skills you need to make much more! Designed as a beginner friendly jewellery course no prior experience is necessary.
Class Structure: What You’ll Make:
- One Custom Signet Ring and One Organic Style Ring with Gemstones
- Cast in a material of your choice (sterling silver or 9ct Gold)
- Fingerprint / impression options possible
- Two to Four Intermediate Level Custom Handmade ‘Band’ Style Rings
- A variety of silver and golds options available
- Letters, numbers, simple designs possible - finished, textured, to your liking
- Custom Letter or Charm for Pendant, Bracelet or Earring
- Sterling silver or brass, solid gold by special request
- Custom fonts, custom charm designs possible
- Custom Chain Bracelet
- Sterling silver
- Variety of link styles and designs to choose from

Key Skills You’ll Learn:
- Wax work - carving, shaping, detailing and accommodating gemstones in wax before casting.
- Both additive (hot wax application) and subtractive (carving and shaping from block wax) is covered
- Ring Making - Advanced soldering using sheet solder and flux, ring making, ring sizing, polishing with rotary tools, finishing texturing styles
- Saw piercing - creating shapes and charms from sheet using jeweller’s saw from sheet metal, drilling, applying jump rings and findings, finishing
- Chain making - handmade bail making, chain soldering, link design, chain polishing and finishing
Course Details:
- 4 x 3 hour sessions, run on consecutive Thursday evenings 530-830pm at our Fitzroy studio
- Two experienced jewellery teachers for every session
- Small class size - 9 students maximum per course (large enough to facilitate a social atmosphere, small enough to feel well supported)

What’s Included (and not Included in the Price)
The course price is inclusive of and covers all:
- Teaching and individual assistance from two experienced jewellers across all four, 3 hour classes
- Provision of all jewellery tools and equipment for classes
- Jewellery consumables (wax, sawblades, tooling bits etc.)
- Findings, Clasps, Jump Rings as needed in Sterling Silver
- All safety equipment
To maximise students’ freedom to make creative choices throughout the course regarding materials, size of pieces and use of gemstones the cost of the below list cannot be calculated or included in the ticket price. Instead, the cost of materials, gemstones, optional components (like chains) are passed on at wholesale cost price (often by weighing final pieces). Costs estimates are made transparent during the design stage of each class so that students are able to meet desired budgets for their creations. The following costs are not included in the course:
- Material cost of items created in class (calculated by weight)
- We do not charge for any scrap material that needs to be recycled after classes - you only pay for what you take home
- Gemstones (optional)
- Chains, ready-made earrings for charms (optional)
While the material cost of the pieces made during the course can vary widely depending on the student’s choices, most students allocate between $175 and $245 (total) for these costs (estimate based on use of sterling silver for all pieces).
Course Booking Policy (Rebookings/Refunds)
Refunds are available with 2 weeks notice from the first class. Courses may be rebooked for a future month or exchanged for store credit with 1 week notice from the first class. Within two weeks of the first class, courses may not be rebooked or refunded, but tickets to the course can be passed on a family member/friend who can make it if students are unable to! Due to the nature of the course structure and limits on class size, unfortunately any unattended classes within the course cannot be rescheduled or caught up at a later date.
